Here is a place where you can buy the lower cowl panel.

My son and I just patched everything and fabbed the hat out of a strip of 20 ga. sheetmetal.

ORIGINAL: 67 evil eleanor

Those are not in too bad of shape. Its good you fixed them right. After the primerI would use a catalized acrylic enamel and weld thru at the seems (3M) overlapping it. I doubt the car will be in the rain ever again but this will protect it if it is. Ford originally did nothing to this area as you now know except the little overspray that made it thru the grills. Welcome to the "Rusty Hat Club".
We are gonna coat the lower half with rubberized truck bed coating. We also used weld thru primer at all of the overlapped metal that we welded. This is in no way going to be a show car. We just want to have everything as functional as possible. Here in the Houston area it rains almost every day in the summer so we need the cowl functioning. Yeah, I don't think Ford even considered rust protection back then. It appears the cars were assembled and then primed and painted. So everyplace that was not visible is not protected.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what under the lower panel? Are cowls three part or just lower and upper?

That is some nice looking work. I am almost afraid of looking at my cowl area too closely.

Reverb, clow is 2 piece upper and lowr. Not including the grill that screws into top.

THey just caem up out with replacement pannel for 69/70 - you can buy upper and lower seperately or buy it prewelded together. CJ, Mustang unlimited both carry now.

"clow, lowr. caem...." Dude, cut back on the coffee!!...just kidding. Yeah, those of us with 69 or newer have the luxury of a grill that screws on the top of the cowl. So if the cowl surgury leaves it with scar tissue (ugly welds, grinding marks, bent metal) it will be covered. If I was doing a 68 or older I would just buy a new top cowl and a spot welder from Harbor Freight.

Wow - them clows are hard to find

Upper and lower then. I found a piece on ebay that calls itself a Lower Inner Cowl

Any ideas if this is the lower panel?

Okay okay - where is a spell checker when I need one.

Reverb that is the upper cowl you attached. When they first came out Dynacorn labeled them wrong. Attached is the one piece assembly. But again you can buy in 2 pieces. The upper would be what you posted from ebay.

BTW - no misspellings this time.
