free 351, worth the effort?

Default free 351, worth the effort?

well my auto teacher offered to give me his 351, it needs some work on it and i was wonding if you guys think it would be worth the effort to fix it. i dont know what is wrong with it yet because i havent taken it home yet. he told me that before the guy gave it to him it was running but it hasnt been started in like 2 years.

the timing cover looks like a marine timing cover like my 302 marine motor i got for free and it was also red[8D]

nothing wrong with red, just need to make sure its a standard rotation 351 i believe all of them are but you never know.

Red implies Cheverolet... I was thinking the same thing. As long as you have room for the thing and a plan I say take it home and get your hands dirty. There are a few different 351s, but if you do a good job rebuildingany of them(finishing rebuild?) you should have a great engine at your disposal.Even if you don't use it youcould sell it for a profit and learn a lot in the process. That's the best part... as long as you aren't getting in over your head you can sell it at any time for a profit. Before you spend any money I would check the compression. If it isn't good have the blocked cleaned and inspected to insure you have a solid starting point. I have a 302 awaiting the same fate before I put it in my car.

if it's an engine from yoyur auto teacher ... take it. Build it up and learn from it.
Either you have a great engine that you can use or sell, or you'll have something to sell on again.
