Default And it starts........The 65 Fastback Build

Had some time this weekend and I was able to work about 4 hours onthewives65 Fastback. Yep, its hers and she has all the say, and the only surprise she will get is when she hits the gas. The 6 banger is out, and after some body and suspension mods, a 400 HP V8 with a Tremec TKO will be dropped in. Actually she does pretty good with a straight shift and she seems to enjoy gear jamming. The next step is to get the carcus on the rotisserie and strip the rest of everything that will unbolt. Then its blasting time. So far I have found only one area of rust. Its in the rear glass recess area and I don't think its going to be a biggie. For my birthday she bought me a new Plasma cutter. Now I get to build her a car.

Doesn't look like it should be too bad, I can't wait to see it when it's done. Good luck!

that transmission looks way smaller than normal, must be because of the I6

looks like fun! You work fast for 4 hours...

I worked on my car all day today and didn't get much done! lol

Yeh, she prettygood to me. At first she has some weird gay looking paint scheme picked out, but thank goodness has changed her mind. She now wants it a metallic blue with the White stripes. Not much fabbing on this one, so I'm guessing about another 175 hours and it will be done. I would love to re-radius the wheel openings, but the kit I was looking at has hit the thousand dollar mark, so I guess I will leave them as they are. The I6 and tranny appear to be original. The tranny is un-synchronized going to first and it meant she had to come to a complete stop to change gears. Its an ittie-bitty thing, butcute. I hope to get on it maybe in the evenings some, the hours will add up quickly (and the cost).

Any bets that you go 2X your estimated 175?

If you can get thing looking remotely as nice as yours, she is going love it. Doesn't seem like you are going to have a tough time prepping. But, you never know.

Can't wait to see this masterpiece finished!!!

I had pretty much the exact same spot of rust as shown in your first pic except mine was on the driver's side. Before fully realizing what I was dealing with, I got a rear deck filler off of Ebay for a song and planned on swapping the whole panel. Once I had the glass out and got a better look, I instead trimmed it back to good metal and cut a patch out of the Dynacorn panel and welded it in. I was going to toss it, but if you want me to cut off the end piece and mail it to you give me a shout.

Looks like a fun project!
