Need Help!!
Hello,
I am new here and just today made a committment to purchase my first mustang. I am a Chevy guy and I have owned several Yenkos, COPOs, 2 ZL1s and several other big block chevys and currently own a COPO camaro and a few other special cars(please do not cast me out on my first post) but really love the 69 and 70 mustangs. I purchased a 1970 Mach 1 428 SCJ car and I will need some help with opinions on value and part correctness. I ordered the Marti report whick shows the car as having the 428 CJ ram air motor, c-6 select shift cruise o matic, black hood stripe, 3:50 axel ratio, black hood stripe. It also has rear window louvers and a rear wing. The car is medium red from the factory. The car is completely assembled and is running and driving. It has original paint and interior. The only metal work it will need is some rear lower quarter work. The car will need restoration but is very clean and complete. I paid 15 k for the car. I am not sure if I got a gooddeal or not. Opinions would be appreciated. Also, I would like to know what parts are the most critical to get with the car. It does have all of the shaker stuff. I have no idea how to identify the motor or the parts on the motor. It has a 428 but not the original. It is a late 69 date coded motor. My question is are the block casting the same for the 428 blocks for the 70 SCJ cars? How about the heads, intake and other part numbers. I really need Mustang 101 for this car. Also, the VIN on the dash is certainly the original. Are there any other locations on the car for a VIN other than the dash? Are there any other critical tags or numbers that need to be in place on the body that I need tobe looking at? I know this is a lot to ask but I really do need help. Thank you and I am excited to be a member and look forward to all of the knowledge on this site.

RE: Need Help!!
Welcome to the forum. Alot of your questions can be answered in the FAQ tread at the top of the page. I say this because I can't answer all of your questions. Behind the stater you should find the block casting number and near there is also the date code. The block number should start with C9xx- for a 69 engine or a D0xx for a 70. The date code should start with a number with is the year in the decade the block was cast follow by a letter which is the mouth of that year A for january and so on. That is followed by another number which would be the day of the mouth.
