Body joint filler

Body joint filler
My project is up on the rotisserie now and I need some seam sealer. Would it work to refill seams in my body panels with a paintable latex caulk? The "special" paintable filler from my local body shop supply is $7.50 a tube. I need about 10. I can get good paintable latex caulk at home depot for about a buck a tube that will stay plyable for 25 years. What does it matter? It's not visable in very many places and I thought I would get one tube of the high dollar stuff for those. Does anyone know of a good reason for me not to do this, I want to save as much on the small stuff as possible , so I can spent on the finish. Mike

We just striped out all the seam sealer from below the cowl today after removing the fenders. There was a pile of it there and after removing it I see no reason for it at all in many areas.I was simply going to add a few coats of bedliner there before doing the whole thing.
Is there any reason to readd the seam sealer in these areas?

RE: Body joint filler
the home depot caulk is not designed to be flexed and have the temp. changes that a car sees! also the urathane or enamel paint will attack it and start to break it down. man you have your car torn down and on a rotisserie and you are looking to cut corners?!? just save some money and use the good stuff! you will notice the difference, and that bathroom stuff isnt that good in the bathroom let alone on a metal car!

Well maybe, Ford sure seemed to pile this stuff on, almost overkill. Maybe I'll try 3 tubes and see how far I get.
