what tooth flex plate,...
i have a 1966 C4 a code car, convertible, its being hooked up to a new crate 302, but i am under the impression that the tooth depends on the tranny bellhousing, i know that i need a 28oz.

I am 99.99% you need the small toothcount flexplate... the bell housing, block plate, starter, and flexplate need to be matched in order to work... I think the smaller flexplate is needed to fit into the C-4 bell housing.

157 tooth is the common for small blocks, the larger 164 tooth was on the big block setups iirc. 164 tooth is also for larger flywheels that hold 11" clutches, the 164 tooth requires a bigger bellhousing I think.

Mustangs, cougars, and falcons have the smaller bells due to lack of space. If you have the stock trans in the car or one from a small car (pony car) then it will use the 157. I had this issue with my falcon. I ordered the 157 but someone had put the larger bell transmission in my car. Make sure you get the right converter also. They are different sizes for the different flywheels. I learned all this the hard way. 2 hour trans swap took me two weeks.
