Rust is like puke

Rust is like puke
When it's coming out you just want it to stop, but if you don't get it all out it will just be worse later.
Found a relatively small hole in the front of the rear wheel housing. It looked like it went into the back seat area.
Pulled the back seat and pulled back the carpet. There was a lot of black hard tar - maybe aftermarket rustproofing - and a lot of the original seam sealer. Dug out as much black tar as I could using a hammer and big screwdriver as a chisel. The vast majority of the floor is like the day it was made except for a hole completely through directly above the rail. Strange, because the inside of the rail is just fine. In another area there was some damage but it appears to be limited to top of two layers of steel.
Under all the black tar was some body paint, red primer and clean steel. Looks kind of crappy in the pictures because there is still tar residue I could not get off.
I think it's small enough to patch without hurting anything...just the exact width of the rail. I am going to patch the wheel housing from the inside. This is not a rebuild project which would involve a new wheel housing. The next guy can do that. Not as discouraged today as I was last night when I first found it.

RE: Rust is like puke
You mentioned this last night however I didn't think the holes were quite that large. Good thing you found them this soon in order to patch them up. Might wanna order something like the POR-15 Starter Kit to clean and paint it once patched. I think its just a pint of each which would be enough for that. Cheap too.
I'd be paranoid and have to start going over every inch of the rest of the car. Hope you don't find anymore.
