Default Starting Problem on 1966

Hello Im new here, just bought a 1966 mustang coupe all stock straight 6. My first issue is starting it. It has a new battery, new alternator, and it looks like it has a new solenoid too. Its starts sometime no problem but sometimes it makes a clicking sound or rattling sound on the solenoid and it wont start. I have tested the starter and its fine, I have also done the old trick to test the solenoid by running a screw driver from the power to the first little terminal and all I get is the same clicking noise.
Thanks in advance
David

Sounds like a ground problem. Check the ground at the battery and at the block.

Another trick to check the solonoid is to turn the ignition to the "on" position and then jump the solonoid with a pair of pliers. If when you use the key to try to start the car and all you get is the solonoid clicking, but when you jump the solonoid with a pair of pliers and the starter turns over then you probably have a bad solonoid. (It could also be in the wiring between your ignition switch and the solonoid, but usually its just a bad solonoid).

SO she is doing it again. After I took the ground off of the battery and off of the block and put it back on she started just fine for a day. Took her out again today and she started right up 5 or 6 times then while we where at a park this afternoon with the dog she did it again. Just the clicking noise coming from the solenoid. Luckly we where only about a mile away from home so I just pushed her on home. I have tried the selonoid check with the screw driver trick and I am only getting the same clicking sound. Any more suggestions on this?
Thanks
David

Try the plier trick. That will bypass the soleniod completely.

Your soleniod must be grounded well to your chasis also. Make sure it is bolted to the apron tightly.

The plyer trick you are refering to is the same as the screw driver right? Going from where the possitive of the battery comes in to the "S" pole on the solenoid right?
Thanks
