Default Rearend and Rebuilt 351c!

So i found two things that i really dont need at the moment but i am in the mood to start building a block onto the side along with a trany and rear end so when summertime comes around i canbuild my hotrod. But first i need to take care of the basics to support the higher hp. My friend has a 9" third member 28 spline with3.25 gears that came out of his big block cougar and only wants 150 for it. First off will this bolt right upin my 70 mustang coupe. And secondly does that gear ratio sound ok to support a 500hp street cleveland? He also has a 351c 2v 359 cid after a .040 overbore It has a Weiand X-celerator intake, Hooker Competition Headers, Comp Cams valve train with a .560 lift 244 Duration @ .050 cam 4V valves (2.19 and 1.71) Forged Pistons as ordered with the Summit Rebuild Kit in 1999. Estimated power was 492 at 6500 rpm. and he wants to trade me for my stock 351c 2v plus 300 bucks cash.

I just wanted to see what yall though of this and i would skip the idea because i need brakes and such first but it seems like a pretty good deal. Then i could bolt up a c6 later onand slap it all in this summer once i finish the undercarage.

I think he over estimated this engine.

yeah he used that desktop dyno. I think it could get close with a bigger carb and a good tune. But most likley around 400-450hp maybe. Still a good street build tho with good gears in the rear.
Does it sound fair?

350hp?

My Cleveland is a 357 (30 over). 10.5:1 Kieth Black pistons, Carter AFB 625, Mallory Unilite, Comp Springs, headers.

I am running a C6, 9" 3.89:1 trac loc. I might change to 3.5:1 gears, I could lose some bottom end and gain some top.

Does your engine run? If so just do some work to it.

What year of Cougar is the 9" out of?

If the third member is clean, that might be a decent deal. 3.25 is what I just bought.

Is it a limited slip, or a one wheel peeler haha?

I believe 67-70 cougars are the same rears in the 67-70 mustangs. 71-3 cougars should be a wider rear than your 70.

mine runs but its bone stock with some chrome and headers . but i would rather not have the car down for a year building it. it would be much easier to get one already done. Its weekend driver and i hate not having it run for a long period of time. its sitting in the garage now stripped because im working on rust. So nows the time to put it in. How much hp is yours puttin out sportsroof?
