Default Questions about 65-67 Mustang as daily driver

I'm looking at buying a classic mustang to use as a daily driver and I had a few questions. I was wondering if you guys thought around $17000 would buy me something that would be reliable enough for daily use. I want a V8, but don't need high performance. What types of things should I look for in regards to the car being reliable and comfortable? I don't have a problem with minor mechanic work, but don't want to deal with any major modifications. Once I do find something acceptable, what modifications do you guys recommend that I invest in? And what basic things do you suggest I think about with this decision? Thanks for any help.

maybe $15,000 and spend a little on better seatbelts, better brakes and some headrests. air conditioning also depending on where you live.

Or you can find one that has all those things done already....

make sure to do the old points to electronic ignition upgrade if it hasent been done already. ac would be nice too. good stereo. are you sure you want a classic as a daily driver? if you live in a colder area carbs can be a little troublesome, gotta let em warm up a little. i dont know about others here but my 71 heater sucks! even with a new heater core. so it tends to sit over winter. and be sure to get it appraised and insured! there is insurance out there for classics.

Front disc are a must so is 3 point seat belts and collapsible steering column.17 grand would get a really nice coupe for a fastback or convertable you might get a ok driveable one for that.

Thanks for all the comments. Sounds basically like what I thought I would hear...belts, brakes, electronic ignition. I'm sure I'll have more specific questions when things get a little more serious, but thanks for the help. One more question for curiosity, what type of gas mileage can you expect from a stock or mildly modded 289?

man 17 k will get you a nice classic but to use it as a d/d??? hmm lot of money to do such with it........heck 13800 will get you my 66 and it's ready to roll ....mild 302, with t-5 tranny ,mild lope to it and all clean inside and out........fully capable of being a d/d but I won't subject it to such as owner as I've spent to much time building it.

the t-5 tranny (5 spd, last gear overdrive) is something you would really love in a daily driver as well. gives you a much better gas/mileage and doesn't wreck your heads with noise on a highway

I'm doing about 15mpg and that seems an average mpg for stock 289s (without t5) from what I've heard here on the forums.

andrew: I never knew there are collapsible steering colums for those ???
