Default Newbie Question (429 in a 1969)

Will a 429 cobra jet fit in a 1969 mustang convertible? If so what else would need to be replaced/upgraded? I have never upgraded (only replaced) an engine so any advice would be great.

Thanks
Joe

I pretty sure the '70 Boss 429 came with that motor.

Tricky part about that one is going to be finding a 429...

I found a running one here in a 71 t bird, and the whole car cost me $70. lol. they're out there.

Most Thunderbirds and LTDs had 429s or 460s in them

I don't think f250s had cobra jets? and the t birds asnd ltd will have thunderjets, in most cases..

and almost all your accessory brackets will need changed as they are typically attached to the sidewalls and fiirewall on a tbird or LTD, new motor mounts, and a c6 at least, if ur looking for an auto.

Wow!!! $70 Thats a deal. This guy is asking $900 for a running 429
When I go look at this thing is there any red flags i should be looking for?
Can you recomend any materials/reading/websites that show how new motor mounts are attached?

Thanks
Joe

you just need big block motor mounts.. they should attatch just like small block ones... but theyre... bigger..

if its running, its not worth $700.... if its recently REBUILT, it might be. a stock 429, while a wicked powerplant, cant hold a candle to a well built small block... it weighs a ton more.

the swap will be expensive, for all accessories and bracketry... if I were you I'd reconsider.

Default 429 CobraJet?

The 429 engine out of the sellers F Series pickup truck is not to be considered by any stretch of the imagination a "performance engine". If you look at the engine, look for signs of it being strapped to a chain and used as a boat anchor.

This 429 was built for torque, not HP and was subject to reduced emissions/power restrictions. It'll bolt into a '69 easy enough with a set of $$$ dollar FPA headers, but you'd be better of with a Honda VTEC motor in there powerwise.

The 429 CobraJet engine had a very limited production run and you're not likely to find one for under $10-50k.

Thanks guys.

Im dont want an anchor! I was always fascinated with the CJ engine. This guy is advertising a 429 Cobra jet for what I thought was a deal. Im glad I asked before I did any thing crazy.

Im still trying to learn as much as I can. Can you recomend any reading for a person with some/little experiance with carb. engines?

Thanks Again
Joe

As for the 429, there are a ton of performance parts available now.
