rims on my 65 fastback
#22
Well, I'm puting these 17x8 rims on my 66 fastback (I also don't like all that chrome on a classic):
With these center caps:
And these 245/45-17 Yokohama tires:
I'm kind of old (still feel young) and just like what I like.

Im gonna be 37 in a few months. I have had my 17’s for about 15 years, since AR first came out. I actually had one of the first sets with my car being featured on their site.I don’t see how you compare bigger wheels to a 64 Impala??? You do know they usually use 13” wheels right?? If I was driving my car down a back country dirt road, I could see not using a bigger wheel with a low profile tire. I think it more depends on the location as to the style of car and the modifications.

Biggest I've Seen
The largest rims I've seen on a '65-66 stang is 18x9's in the rear and 17x7's in the front, and the car was pretty close to stock height, lowering would result in severe rubbing. Tires were like 35-series up front and 45 series in rear.
Here's a similar setup but it's lowered, I'll guarantee this has ZERO downward suspension movement up front or it will rub...
Here's the whole article with specs as it was featured on HPS. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...icial%26sa%3DN
Now this is just lame.....

I too am going with the FR500's. I can use the 10"-10 1/2" in the back with my 68. The fronts are whats killing me. The narrowest FR500 is 9" as you know.
Don't flare the fenders, send the front wheels in to get narrowed and inch or two. I have not checked into it yet but I have read that it costs about $125 per wheel.

i think 17s are ideal for early mustangs. a safe range for rim diameter i think would be anywhere from 16"-18". As long as you keep the profile at a reasonable %, it will look good.
too much side wall looks dumb as well as too little sidewall belongs on modern performance cars imho.
my wheels are polished TT II's 17x8, 245/45/17 rear 225/45/17 front...i think they look perfect. i did order a slightly incorrect backspacing, but im starting to think it was good that i did.

18" on a 1966 Fastback
In case you were considering 18" wheels on your 1965 Fastback. The wheels are made by Coys from Utah.
Front 18x7 with 225/40/18 - 4.50 backspacing - no rubbing
Rear 18x8 with 245/40/18 - 4.75 backspacing - some rubbing (SSBC rear disc conversion kit)
Front coils cut by prior owner(?), Rear 4 1/2 Mid-eye leaf springs
Everyone has an opinion. This information well help some justify their own opinion. I don't mind bolt on, bolt off modifications. Good Luck.
