351w in a 66 coupe

1969 had the highest HP of 290. If you run the 84, it has a 28 oz balancer which means you can use your flywheel. Summit sells #88650 Hedman for $153.95. Didn't see it in MU. I haven't seen the higher mounts but I'm interested too. You can use the same starter and it depends on the header for the mini. I had the regular starter for a while and clearance was great with the shortys.

http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/key...ords=351w+swap here is the link for the mustang swap headers, if clearance is good with the stock starter and shorty headers than i just might go that route to save a little $$.
now how much clearance do you have between your shock towers and headers? and are you using stock 302/289 engine mounts?
and can i reuse the timing chain cover, water pump, crank pullys and harmonic balancer on a 1969 351w from my 302?

Nothing against MU cuz I love that place and they like me for the money I've spent, but those are the Hedman headers I got from Summit. Save 30 bucks. I bought new stock mounts and they worked perfect. I also used the 289 (new) front cover, water pump, pulleys but got a SFI balancer. The clearance between our towers is about 3/4" on each side. Look at the picture, number 7 goes up and back and that is what makes the bolts dificult. The 67-68 have more clearance than we do because their car is wider.

ok, i was thinking about beating the shock towers in a little to gain some clearance, and another thing i was thinking about doing was buying longer engine mount bolts and shimming the engine upwards with grade 8 washers to gain a little more clearance, same concept as the "raised engine mounts" and of course using a very small air cleaner.
what is an sfi balancer? and what are the advantages of using a sfi balancer?
and is there any differences in power between shorty and full length headers? or is that a dumb question

If you have a metal yard around, get some steel tubing and cut it to spec. Use a thick wall tubing too. Good idea, I might try that. My balancer was shot, rubber coming out so the different between them, I went SFI. SFI balancers are guaranteed NOT to come apart at 6K and above. No real advantage except they do have both 3 and 4 bolts. The long tubes produce more horsepower. I used short because its going lower!

You know, I have really been thinking about what you said about the mounts. If you go too high, that WILL change the angle of the trans WHICH in turn changes the u-joint angles! Not good if it's too much. Raising the engine 1/2" and the trans 1/2" should be ok. There really isn't room in the tunnel to go much more.

well thanks for the advice randy, i really appreciated it, as of now im waiting for my new gas tank and heater junction box, and for my next pay check haha, i figure two more pay checks will cover my build up expenses for now.
oh, i was wandering, my donor 351w has a stock harmonic balancer off of an 1989 351w and it appears to be in good shape, is there any reason i couldnt reuse it on a 1969 351w?

Look at the back of each balancers and MAKE SURE the balance weight is the same size. I don't remember what the 89 is. If they appear to be the same, no problems. The 50 in oz is almost double the size. Need anything else, let me know.

ok, update, motor came in today, i had motor works in seattle build it, it is a 69 351w. they put a cam and springs in it and its supposed to be putting out 300 horse power, so im pretty excited about that.
im curious, can i reuse the flywheel that is on the 302 that was in the car?
