Default C4 Pan and Filter Torque?

Hi guys,

I am changing the trans fluid and can't find the torque specs.
Can anyone tell me the torque specs for the transmission filter and pan on a 1966 C4 Automatic?

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Well the filter came with instructions that said to tighten the pan to no tighter than 12 ft lbs. There was no torque for the filter.

So I will tighten the pan to 10-12 ft lbs. and tighten the filter to 8 -10 ft lbs.

Shop Manual says 12 - 16 ft lbs for the pan. I'm not sure about the filter. Might be the "Screen & Lwr. to Upper Valve Body 40 - 55 Inch lbs". I don't think the filter has to be very tight so 8 - 10 ft lbs would be fine

I just changed the filter.

The bolt torque for the filter was around 40 Inch lbs (I used my calibrated arm to test it). I started to tighten it to 8 ft lbs(with a torque wrench) and realized it was not that tight when I removed it. The bolts are small and when I tightened the filter to 40 Inch lbs it seemed pretty close to the tightness when I removed the bolts.

i didnt think anyone actually torqued those things. just tighten em up, but not too tight - thats the torque spec i've always used and never had a leaky pan gasket
