Default How to Change Brake Spindles on a 68?

Hello everyone! I have a 1968 302 Mustang that was ORIGINALLY a 6 Cylinder car so the front has 4 Lug. I have brand new V8 5 Lug spindles with the whole drum brake set up and need to replace. What I thought was going to be a really easy job is turning into a little more than i thought. What exactly has to be unbolted in order to make the swap? Last night i had the car jacked up and the 3 bolts off the spindle and the brake line off the drum. Do I actually have to take the lower control arm and tie rod COMPLETELY OFF the car to get the spindle assembly out? Is there anything else in addition to that? Let me just clarify the existing setup is manual drum and so is the new set up....and with regard to the rear, I already have that set up with a Ford 9 inch 5 lug rear. Thanks in advance, James..

All you need to remove are the brake line, tie rod end, and ball joints.

If you have issues with removing the ball joints, get yourself a couple BFH's. Put one on one side of the spindle where the ball joint mounts, then hammer the other side. They should fall apart in short order.

Thank you. Yea, i got it all apart and the ball joints look a little sad so i am going to just replace the upper and lower while is all basically apart. Problem solved! The parts are certainly cheap enough! THanks again for your help!
