Default 1966 color combinations

I have a '66 coupe that I'm restoring & although I'm a long ways off from actually painting, I'm trying to get my color schemes & preferences down that I would like so I can start prepping myself for it (don't know if that makes much sense or not...lol). I get kinda scatterbrained and over anxious trying to think of different colors that might look good. If anyone has any ideas on the color scheme for the exterior/interior I would like to hear them. Also if you have any pics I would like to see those. Thanks in advance, Quin

Thanks guys for the info. I believe I am going to go w/ candy apple red w/ white racing stripes on the outside. As far as the inside goes, I still don't know. Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks in advance, Quin

My first car was a 66 coupe, Nighmist blue with an off white interior, don't know what color Ford called it, maybe Parchment or Bone, had dark blue carpet, Lord it was a pretty car. The 66 GT 2+2 I used to have was Springtime Yellow with the black Pony interior, it was sweet too. Sorry I don't have any pics of either one. They had so many different color combos back then you could practically have anything you wanted. I've always liked the darker colors myself with the 2 tone pony interiors. Just think it makes the cars look more expensive and classy. Black with red interior looks great and I love my white 05 GT with the black and red interior. You said you're restoring it, any way of knowing how it came from the factory? I'm new to the restoration side of classic Mustangs but have been into MGs for the past 30 years, having redone 2 of them. Looking forward to finding out what you pick.

Brnc,

Did you ever figure out what the original color was? If you like it, that could be a good idea.

Red is nice but common.

My car is Ivy Green with a black gut, I like it well enough, but when I was young I remember a burgundy fastback with tinted windows and a parchment interior. It was beautiful.

The original color was Springtime yellow (not sure of the interior color). The front also used to have a bench seat but I am going with bucket seats. I also thought of a burgundy color but not quite burgundy though. If I did that color I would make it a dark dark purple almost to where it looks black. I don't know if that's been done before but it might be nice. Also, one more color I was thinking of was like a real pretty yellow (nice & bright...lol) with black racing stripes. Thanks for all the info. so far guys.
