Found a 351
I found a 351 long block with an engine stand for a very good price but i have a couple questions. First, apparently it was a marine motor, what kinds of problems am i going to run into if i use it? Second, i have not seen it and im not sure if its the cleveland or the windsor, what are the differences between the two?

I was looking into a marine 351 at one time. The consensus is that I should not go there. That motor has been around water its entire life, no reason to risk it in picking this one up. You can find a normal car 351 just as easy.

well its a long block with an engine stand for $150. we're actually getting it from a buddy so i have no worries in regards to that...i just thought i heard somewhere that the crank turns the opposite way in marine motors or something weird like that but i cant remember

yeah, just remember that since its a marine motor, it could be fairly rusty throughout
i would get it all checked at a machine shop before you throw parts at it and end up having a useless block. which im sure you would get it checked anyways

hmm I don't know much about marine blocks but just be careful
as for the cleveland vs windsor thing, the cleveland should have a spot for the radiator hose on the top of the block, the windsor on the other hand has it on the intake. I don't really know what other indicators there are when it's just a bare block, it it was together i could tell ya easily. You might be able to look at the code on the block by the starter area, i'm sure a letter signifies what plant it was made at... it was made in cleveland it's a cleveland, windsor its a windsor.

Clevelands also have canted valves and the radiator hose goes into the block instead of the intake.
Windsors have inline valves and the radiator hose goes into the block.
Ether one will fit into a 66 coupe but the cleveland would be a slightly physically larger engine.
also a cleveland has a seperate timming plate and the fuel pump bolts are vertical unlike the windsor which has horizontal bolts.
