Default Leaf Springs ? Tire Size ?

How does the different leaf springs affect the tire sizes? If I put Standard eye or Mid eye Leaf springs on my 67 coupe, will it affect the size of tire I can put on the rear? I wanna put 17X9 wheels at the rear. Will I have less clearance with mid eye leaf springs? What is the advantage of having the rear of the car lowered anyway?

With regular leafs you won't have a problem in the rear. The mid eye's lower a tad, like .25-.50 IIRC. You might have to roll the fenders with the mid eye's.

Are you lowering/have lowered the front already? If not it will look pretty bad IMO. When you lower the car you are lowering it's center of gravity, which will give you a more stable ride when cornering, less body roll=more tire on the road=more traction=faster corners.

Thanks, that chart answers any wheel and tire questions with other applications. I think I wanna stick with the standard eye. I have kyb gas adjust shocks already. How often should the rear shocks be changed? How can you tell if they are bad or not?

Most company's will recommend a mileage to change them at. Usually around 40k to 60k. You can do the non scientific method Push down and release quickly on the corner of the car with the shock you wan to test. A good shock with bounce the car back to the original position and not really bounce after that. A bad shock will cause the car to keep bouncing after you pushed the corner down in the first place.

A tire either fits under the rear fender or it doesn't. Ride height has nothing to do with that. If you have tires that stick out too far, you're going to rub them on the fender as soon as you hit a good bump. Don't rely on your springs to keep the tires from bashing into the fender.

Rolling the fender lips will gain you a bit of extra clearance, and isn't a bad idea if you're trying to cram the largest tire possible under your car.
