73 dash paint
Hi, I'm going to re-paint the center area of my dash. There is a large chromed plastic piece there that holds the radio, 3 guages, and an air conditioning vent.
I'll need to mask off a small chrome strip that runs around the outside.
What color should I paint it. The original color is long gone. The metal portions of the dash are sort of black, but probably a very dark gray. Anyone know a color code or some idea of what that color is supposed to be?
Also, should I use spray paint from Home Depot, or should I go to an auto paint store and have something mixed?
Thanks,
John

I'm pretty sure the dash in all 71-73s were black on all parts. mine was/is all black, both of my dad's were black, as well as everyother 71-73 I've seen has a black dash/center console. You should be able to get away with rattle can as long as you don't go cheap on it and have several coats of color and clear coat. but be careful because in cold weather clearcoat from a can likes to go orange peel on you.

I'm looking for the black color. Is that the charcoal black?
As a side note, cause I do need the other color too, the interior is blue, so I guess it's medium metallic blue. But, when I bought a can of what was supposedly medium metallic blue, I got a color that was much much lighter than my interior.
The outside of the car is 3K - Blue Glow Poly.
