You're not going to get much from the mini-tub, aside from having to remove your rear seat. IIRC, you can only get something like an inch more room before you run into the leaf springs. If you've got a coil setup, that's a different story.

Stock, you should be able to cram a 17x9 wheel out back with 275/40ZR17's, although you may need to make some minor modifications to the fender and wheel well.

Why are you worrying about this? 8" wide wheels will fit without any problem, and you can run more tire at that width than you should need unless you have a nasty big block or stroker motor.

What size tire/rim are you thinking about running, that will govern what work you need to do to the car. Additionally if you are thinking about a tire that doesn't actually fit the back of the car the only reason to do it is if you are building a bit power plant...otherwise you will just slow yourself down needlessly.

for now im running a stock 302, once i get some other things done on the 68 illl be building a 347 stroker with tfs fast as cast heads and a custom ground billet cam, so yeah it should be a pretty hot little motor so i want the tire there so itll hoook good, i guess ill try to just get away with a 15x8 out back and maybe a 15x7 up front, anyone have pics of there classic with a 8inch wide wheel out back with a fat tire, could i squueze say around a 9 inch wide tire in there?

I've got 18x9 on my 67 coupe, course my axle was from a 65 so its shorter and i still had to run with spacers to avoid the leafs. I'd say stick with the 16x7 they still look nice IMO

You can put a 9.5 wide wheel in the rear of a 67/8 without mini tubs on a stock height to slightly lowered car and the tire you put on it will govern if you need to roll your fender lips or not.

thanks i didnt think i could run a 9.5 wide tire without major mods, that should be plenty for me, a 9.5 wide tire should fit on a 8 inch wide wheel ok right? and also i think i remember seeing somewhere i should stick to around a 26-27" tall tire right? and with a 15" wheel id need around 4.5 backspacing on the rear with a 15x8 and like 4-4.25 up front with a 15x7 is this correct?
