Marti Report
I want to get a Marti Report, but the type transmission data code on the door plate doesn't match the type transmission the car actually has. Data plate has a code 'I' for 3-speed manual, but car actually has a 3-speed automatic. All other data matches what the car has.
The number on the VIN plate on the dash DOES match the number stamped on the left front fender.
Is this a common occurence with these cars?
Should I get a Marti anyway or would it be a waste?

People for years have been doing tranny conversions on these cars. It is not all that uncommon, but does affect the resale to a knowledgeable buyer. Usually it is from an auto to a standard b/c everyone wants a stick. My guess is one of the previous owners did a swap.
I do not think a Marti Report is ever a waste. If nothing else, it gives you a blueprint to take the car back to original condition someday.

What probably happened was the manual tranny went out sometime back in the day so they just replaced it with an auto because they probably found one in the junkyard or something. A marti report is great and will tell you what your car ORIGINALLY came with, it may very well be that the door code is incorrect, or your tranny was simply swapped out like many people do today
