Default New Exhaust - you mod guys will hate this

It had a kind of hacked together exhaust which was way too loud for a stock 65 289 single exhaust. These cars had an odd muffler which had the inlet and outlet on the same end. The PO probably could not find one so he stuck a Glasspak in there and routed out the other side, which put the tailpipe on the wrong side of the car.
This stuff came from NPD and I was amazed at the quality. Good, heavy stuff and it fit! $175 for everything but the Y pipe. The good fit is no small thing when you see how this odd exhaust wraps up and over and around. The new new hangers are an exact duplicate of the originals - again a perfect fit. I even spent an extra couple of bucks to get the repro clamps which are stamped FORD. Only minor problem I had was some comeback exhaust at the Y pipe/ exhaust pipe junction. Solved that with some sealing compound and a killer U-clamp

My 67s setup is the opposite. It has the pipe coming in on the driverside and exiting on the passenger.

That big ol' single muffler is actually less restrictive than a lot of the smaller mufflers used in dual setups.

I guess I am one of those "resto" guys.... but I like the stock setup second to a Smithy's glasspacks "true dual" (no X or H pipe) setup...

I feel sorry for the folks who shelled out for 3" pipes and big old mufflers when my 1 3/4" pipes with Smithy mufflers on the old 55 Lincoln sound the COOLEST...

HoneyGolden's single exhaust will sound second best after my "true duals", the rest of you suckers can follow up the rear...

I mod stuff and there is nothing wrong with that muffler and pipe. Sure it isnt going to be found under something that runs 9s in the 1/4, but your car doesnt run 9s. If I didnt have the duals for the Cougar it would probably get a similar setup, and I really dont care if its stock or not, I care how well it works for what I pay for it.

I just took it out for a drive. It has a nice sound. Quiet when it is sitting at a light, but on acceleration it sounds very similar to my 2005 V6 Mustang, perhaps a little louder. Ford went all out on the 2005 sound, even having focus groups to tell them what a Mustang should sound like.
It also runs better. Probably was tuned for some back pressure and now it has it.
