Hood with cracks - how to paint?
I have a 66 Silver Blue Metallic with some hood damage. Looks like it was hit at some point. I saw some bumps in the surface near the driver's side edge. Sanded it down and found a lot of bondo. Sanded farther and I see cracks in the metal. So, what should I do, just bondo it back up or do I have other choices?

i agree pictures would help.
i would always say the best route is to hammer out the metal to make it the correct fit again and then weld in the cracks and grind smooth.
if you leave the cracks in the metal and fill over them you will see them in the end just as if there were cracks in the paint and just painted over.

when i got my car it was freshly painted. I had cracks in the front of hood appearing already after half year. the cause of all this: broken metal in the hood ... so ya. it has to be fixed properly as otherwise the first time you close the lid you'll have cracks

I would get a new hood for it, I can fix rust and dents, but fatigue is different. It will keep cracking and there isnt much you can do about it. When you bend metal repeatedly it hardens, then cracks, and it affects a large area. The hoods on these cars werent exactly overbuilt, they were built just good enough to last a few years. Now its over 40 and the years have not been kind.
The only way to know how bad it is would be to strip the hood entirely and see how bad it is. That is a dangerous thing to do, because fixing one small thing like that will make others look worse, then you fix those items. Before you know it the car is a bare shell on a rotisserie...
