8" rear end convert to posi?
ok ive got a 68 mustang with a 8" rear in it,, i wanna make it a posi or lsd, question is were can i get the guts for it? and how hard would it be to put in?
sorry i know the question is kinda vauge, im just hoping there is a way to pull my old diff guts out from the front and bolt the new front with posi/ lsd stuff in its place. and not have to set pinion depth and whatnot.
also what cars could i find a unit in?
and ive heard that a 9" internals could fit also but it deosnt make sense to me

its 8" im pretty sure, and the reason im asking is im trying to figure out if on these units the whole gear assembly comes out with the cover once it unboltedand the axels are slid out? and then a pre built unit with the cover on it will just go into place and you slide the axles in and away you go

In both the 8" and 9" Ford rear, it has a 3rd member. The part that bolts on that has the yoke sticking out of it(the "cover") actually has the entire gear assembly in it. Axles slide out of it first, unbolt it and pull the whole thing. They weight a freakin TON and are quite awkward to handle from under a car.

That's typical for a Ford 8 or 9, to give you an idea.

I bought a Yukon Trac Lok on ebay for either high 200's or low 300's, best deal I could find and I looked every where. There's a dealer on there who sells them extremely low and will sell you all the bearings too at a fair price. I then got a local shop to install it in the 3rd member that I pulled out and then installed the whole third member with trac lok after.
