Default 289 pistons

Are the stock 289 Pistons Aluminum, and exactly how much power can the stock piston rods hold? Thanks

Yes stock pistons are aluminum. Not very good by todays standards, but yes...aluminum.

I don't know "exact power". There are just too many ways to get there. I have built some NA 260 lbs/ft torque / 300hp 289's that have had good longevity with reworked stock rods. It also depends a lot on the car and driver, and if you can hand select the internals.

I think a real good builder could probably get more. Tools, time and experience are the biggest factor when using stock components. I think a "newb" with some guidance could get at least 225 lbs/ft and 265 hp and still have a durable street setup.
