Default What Tranny do I need???

I am converting my automatic 65 fastback with original 200 motor, to a v8. I have a 1983 5.0 high output 302 motor going in, but have not tranny?? Should I just look for a C4?? The guy doing my work with me said the one I have may have the right bolt holes but have no idea, so I guess we will see when we tear it apart next weekend, but would like to find a tranny I can use because with my luck they won't match up and will have to get it anyways... any that I should be looking for that are better than C4? T5? Thanks, Jeff

Also, doing scarbird disk brake kit for the 4 lug so we don't have to change te front and rear ends. Hope it works well.

I think it has to be a v6 4r70w and you need a controler for it too which is a grand plus on its own.A aod is a easier swap all it needs to run is a tv cable to the throttle no ecu at all.

My 4r70w came out of a 2002 ford van. Controllers can be had from Bauman for under $500

Has the front end already been replaced? Personally, I would never drop a V8 into 45 year old i6 suspension (or any i6 for that matter). I would not drive it past the driveway.

a 5-speed would be sweet, but that's a pretty time consuming and involved job. Really rewarding pay-off though, you'll get sad faces from losers in ICOCK-Z's and Honda crapwagons, not expecting an old pony to have legs like that.

But the C4 is by far the easier job for you. You will need a correct bellhousing though.

I would go auto if it were mine.

Good point, for a 4R70W you need a v6.
