Default Electrical/Wiring questions

First off, I know it sucks, and I know I'm already in over my head. But I want to learn and no better way then getting hands on!

So I've been looking for engine bay only wiring harnesses for my 71, but can't seem to find any. So I thought about possibly making my own. Is there a resource out there that will tell me what connecting hardware I'll need and what gauge of wire I need? Believe you me, I've been looking!

Also, what sort of tools would I be looking at to properly do a job like this?

Thanks again guys, pretty stoked to try and do this. Electrical is still a nether-realm in terms of general knowledge for me, so don't feel bad if you feel like you're talking to a 5 year old, lol.

Is that a kit or a DIY guide? I'm more along the lines of looking into actually buying wire and connectors and just redoing it myself. But thanks all the same, I'll see what I can google up!

I would suggest a good set of wire strippers and wire crimpers. I got greenlee strippers and crimpers from Lowes. Also a good soldering iron. As far as the actual wiring it shouldnt be too bad, just get 12v everwhere it needs to go.

Hey thanks for the link, unfortunately that's not really what I was after. I will probably buy several things from them when I get my list together though. I appreciate the help demon!

If you call Ron Francis, they can hook you up with just wire and connectors I bet. Good folks that I called several times during my rewire.

I see a "engine gauge" loom in the Calif mustang catalog for two different 71 models. 302/351W or 351C. Their part number is 14289 S or T respectively. For the headlight loom, there is no listing for the 71 MY but PN 14290 may be the same for 70 & 71.
