Default C4 - Rebuild or Replace?

Hey all, so the time has come to either replace or rebuild the transmission in my '67 coupe. Original c4, numbers matching everything on the car, so there is value to rebuilding. My local shop is quoting me $1400 for a full rebuild, and if I heard him right, a 4000 mile warranty, which I think is ****. Or, buy a re-manufactured C4 tranny such as this, http://www.transdepot.net/Ford-C4-Pe...-1-_p_286.html, which has a 2 year/unlimited mileage warranty.

Now if I opt for the new tranny, besides the bellhousing, what else would I need to complete the swap? 1800 stall torque converter is included if you read the description.

Lastly, suggest to me any other options on transmissions that are better, my 67 is just a cruiser, does not see any high speed racing at all. Thanks in advance.

I've got a TCI I bought thru Summit for a little more than the remanufactured one you linked to. But has more features - manual valve body and stonger internals. They are 70+ plus trans which a heavier duty than 67. I tried rebulding my C4 and ended up burning it up. Not exactly sure what I did wrong.

I'm not too inclined to rebuild it myself, since it is such a vital part of the vehicle I don't want to destroy it or anything, nor do I have the time to work on it myself, with no knowledge of what I would be getting into.

Not really in the cards to upgrade, to AOD, the cost of the tranny plus all the labor involved would be more than I really want to spend.

I put an AOD with a reverse manual valve body in my 70. It is an INCREDIBLE difference in drivability. I also have about $3k into my transmission now, I made it all bulletproof as possible to handle the new stroker.

C4s are a dime a dozen. As long as you're not putting down stupid horsepower, and don't have a steep rear end gear ratio (3.50, 3.73, 4.11, etc) then you'll be fine to stick with one.

I was just looking at summit they have a summit brand c4 rated up to 450 HP for $899. I've had good luck with other summit brand stuff and may go that route with my 66. Couple hunder cheaper than simiiar TCI - and probably made by them anyway.

So 275-300 hp 302, C4 & 3.25 for a daily driver/street ripper FIA fake would work? Cause that's what I'm thinking, now.

Yup, and be pretty comfy too, I'd think.

I have a ~600hp stroker and 3.50 gears... wasn't working to well with the poor old C4.

I would think you'd be just fine. Might be in higher rpms on the freeway, but won't be ridiculous.
