1968 302 electrical gremlin
I have a 1968 mustang that has a 302 in it currently. Everything ran fine last year. I went to start it and the battery was dead. I read that this could be an alternator or the voltage regulator. I replaced both with oem parts. Now I have a new battery, voltage regulator and alternator. The problem is that when the battery is connected, power is immediately on in the interior to the dash gauges and radio. Mid you that the keys are not in the ignition. When the keys go into the ignition and they are turned to crank, all power goes off. I do have the hei type distributor if this helps. Any ideas?

It could be a bad switch as jmk3 has suggested or a miswire at the rear of the switch. or worst case a short in the main harness. to troubleshoot you need to beak it down into smaller circuits so go to the switch and pull the plug off- if this stops the issue stop here and replace the switch. if it doesn't you need to look at the switch wiring and make sure it's per the diagram (available several places online).
