Default flywheel issues

hey ken here, recently bought a 67 coupe c code with 289 and a c4 auto. im having the tranny rebuilt at the moment , and while its out im addressing a noise issue . sometimes i hear a scrub from the lower engine , after removing the dust cover I see the flywheel weight has been scrubbing the dust cover and the plate between it and the engine. im going to remove the flywheel to check it for warps cracks or anything , my question here is that on several internet sites it states that the weight on the flywheel is supposed to face the tranny not the engine. any insight or info on this would be greatly appreciated

Automatics don't have flywheels, they have flexplates. Check to make sure the dust shield/shim plate isn't warped. Or that the flexplate isn't warped for that matter too.

I don't think the flywheel can be installed backwards, the bolt holes won't line up.

More than likely it's the dust cover out of shape.

Are the weights on the correct side?

ken,
i think this is the same issue my buddy told me his 67 is having (i'm watching her for him while he's on deployment) i believe it's the same engine (289, 4.0L inline-6, automatic tranny?). he said it was the flywheel as well but i guess he means flex plate lol

does it feel sluggish when you drive? my buddy's does and i'm not sure if that's related to the flex plate.

A 289 is a 4.7L, an inline 6 is a 200. You can't install a flexplate backwards, the bolts won't line up.

D4 is definitely a '74. Check the dust cover while you're at it to be sure that's not an issue too.
