Default Help car stalls after 40-45 mins of driving

I bought a 66 Mustang inline 6 recently. The engine, transmission and carb were rebuilt in the last 300-400 miles. The problem I am having is I drive the car for 40-45 mins and when I come to a stop the car stalls and sometimes will restart but won't stay on. The car isn't overheating, the only thing that seems to happen when coming to a stop is the oil pressure drops below the L. Could that be the issue? Any help would be great. Also if anyone knows of a great mechanic around the Long Beach, CA area.

Does it have an electronic ignition? Like an MSD setup its running? If so that sounds like its the power box overheating so the car shuts off.

Honestly I have no clue, I am not too mechanically inclined. Is there a way to tell if it has electronic ignition?

Sounds heat related? In addition to the electronics issue, I would also check the fuel lines and carb temp. If the fuel lines are not routed properly they can pick up heat from the engine and vaporize gas before it gets to the motor. Also, gas sitting in the carb bowl can vaporize. I have my gas lines heat wrapped and put in a carb spacer to keep heat away from the carb. My air filter was also causing an issue as well, as it was trapping hot air.

My former mechanic now that I don't trust now said it could be vapor lock? I don't see how that would be possible, its not hot enough outside for that. Oh and I don't have electronic ignition either. Will wrapping the fuel lines help? They are steel and seem like it is touching the engine at one point coming from the fuel pump to the carb.

Maybe give that length of fuel line that is touching the block a wrap but I'd bet something electrical is getting hot and breaking down.

What kind of shape is your wiring harness in, especially around any heat sources? Any brittleness or bare wires?

What kind of shape is your coil in? For funsies pull the coil wire from the distributor cap and see what your spark looks like. It should be white/bright blue.

Next time it dies, pull the coil wire again and see what your sparkage looks like then. If it is a dull yellow or no spark then you have found your culprit.

The electrical/ignition ideas are valid things to check.

sometimes will restart but won't stay on
This sounds very similar to a dirty fuel filter.
Change the filter(s) first, cheap any easy to do.
Even with only those few miles on it, it could still be clogged.

Look for something like this if its a newer electronic system.

If its an early model electronic ignition.

I JUST had this same problem with my fastback. I rode around for about 45 minutes and the car started bucking a little and would keep cutting off especially when i came to a stop. The culprit?

The fuel sending unit was old, and the screen was now black. So dark in fact, that you could not see light through it.

The way I see it is, the sediment in your gas tank must be progressively collecting on the screen and not allowing fuel to flow through. I would at least check it, and maybe even replace it so that you know it will not be a problem in the future. Oh, and upgrade to the 3/8" tube to support any future engine upgrades (like that v8 you'll eventually have to have)

Best of luck!
