Default 66 feels uneven when slowing 50-45 mph

When I'm driving along and I lift up on the gas just a bit (with still some gas) to slow down from about 50 mph I feel an uneven feeling. It's like the trans or the engine is hesitating or shifting in and out of accelerating and slowing. Shouldn't this feel smooth? I've got a 66 with a 85 Mustang 302.

The cam is hyper type (whatever that means). So, I understand that it may have a lope.

Check your alignment, in coast mode it should just decelerate.
