I really want to get my car inspected and everything works except the emergency flashers. I rewired the whole car but haven't gotten around to the flashers yet.
They are listed on the 66 Mustang "accessories" wiring diagram I have so I would have to say no, they were optional. The switch goes in the glove box if you decide to follow factory install.
I did a bit of research on this and the US DOT made mfgrs put these on the 1967 model year as std equipment along with dual bowl master cyls and other safety goodies. It isn't clear if in 66 Ford went ahead and put them in standard or not. I think most likely early 66 were optional and late 66 were included- again no real data to support this one way or another.
I'm gonna put them in, but I want to get it inspected this afternoon so I'll be legal. Pretty sure I can convince the tech that they weren't required ...
According to the 66 Ford Mustang Illustrated Facts Book, they were standard equipment. Whether or not they were required by law is a different discussion.
Whether or not the people inspecting know they were required is another matter as well.....
That's the real question. Just tell them they didn't come standard and go from there. Most likely they'll just take you word for it anyway and won't have a clue.
