Default Header clearance 1969

Just swapped out old c4 to aod, and installed new headers and driver side header hits crossmember very slightly and passenger side header skims the tranny oil pan. I could push them away by half inch with my hand so they are not hitting hard.

What can I do to resolve this issue? Car is on jacks by the way. Will headers drop a bit when lowered or not very much?

You can dimple the headers or convince them to stay further away, which could crack a weld at the flange. A reweld would fix that.
The one near the tranny may add heat to it, so consider wrapping the header nearby.

.
you should not be able to move the headers at all when they are bolted to the head . . if you can move yours with your hand they are the sh_ttiest headers in the world and should go in the trash can . . jba headers will not hit an aod trans . . call them for info.

Good point. It takes a good lever to convince them over.

They are patriot headers and the long ones. I agree that shorty headers will not move when bolted but the long ones do have slight movement. Nonetheless, taking car to exhaust shop tomorrow to finish exhaust and bend or reweld headers. I'll post some photos..

Passenger side flange skims the oil pan

Passenger side skims oil pan

Driver side runs on crossmember.

You have obviously never had a set of good headers.

you can space them out from the head around 3/16" with a stock 5.0 ex gasket, then a copper gasket, then a remflex gasket . . paper gaskets are junk and burn out.

you can not flex these headers by hand.

I am taking it to an exhaust shop on Tuesday. Going to make some mods to the headers and finish off the rest of the exhaust.

You don't need to be such an a hole by the way. I bought the patriot headers as they are half the price of the ones you just recommended. Can't afford them on military pay. Oh well!

im simply stating the facts in an attempt to help you . . its not helpful to call someone that is stating facts and trying to help you an a hole . . if you don't like the facts then you might prefer a differeny site, i can assure yoiu there are several that have people that will be very glad to give you wrong info . . don't shoot the messenger just because you don't like the message.

if you don't want headers that flex then simply pay the money for ones that aren't sh_tty . . i didn't make you buy the patriots.
