RE: Is there a resto mod class in judging?
Hi Soaring,
According to an artical you posted about GT facts there is not a number or letter on the door tag telling if it was a factory GT. http://www.etconnect.com/gt/mmgtff.htm

that is not showing the facts, its just a code that they think is a gt stamp, my car does not have that on the buck tag, but i know for a fact mines a real GTA. The only way weve ever been able to tell if a 65-66 is a real GT or not is simply if it has an A or K int the vin, has disk brakes, and if you can read steering box tags, theres another way to tell. I dont mean to shoot down your opinion, its just the facts, especially if a person who knows these cars so well, and can tell whats stock GT and whats just plain stock

The only TRUE way to tell if a 65-66 is a factory GT is to have the original build sheet which in today's world is VERY rare. The GT status does not show up in the VIN or door tag, thus making it impossible to verify. That said, you can usually look at the factory wiring and others things to tell if they've been added or were factory. I saw a report on this in Mustang Monthly or Mustang & Fords. I'll see if I can locate it and post it here.

Hi Fastback,
Thats what I thought about the GT package not having a number or letter on the door tags. Do you know if it had to be a A code to be a GT? In other words GT A code or could you have a C code GT? If it had to be a A (or K ) code to be a GT that would narrow it down a bit from the git go.
Thanks! Walt

From everything I've read, a GT was only offered with the 4-barrel or the hi-po. I looked at a couple of different web sites and build sheet information sheets and it said the same thing. Hope this helps.

very true for 65-66 mustangs: they had to have a A code or a K code to be a true GT. Like i said before, 67 was the first year for the GT that could be ordered with a C code 289 2v. Also in another forum, i posted, that disk brakes would now be an option for the GT in 67. I dont have the facts, but i think Ford did this, to cut down total cost of vehicles, so that people who wanted a GT, but couldnt afford all these options that they had no concern for back then (disk brakes, power steering, 289 4v etc etc) Just like todays modern Mustangs can be a v6 with gt looka like options. Personally i smell a marketing stratagey back then.
