Default Long road ahead...

Well... Every journey begins with one step, so here is the starting point. I'm thinking it's going to be a GT350...maybe an R model.
I'm removing the seat pans so that a one piece seat pan from a convertible can be installed. I also need to move the seat pans as far back and lower them as much as possible as I'm not a small guy. Going to also install torque boxes, convertible inner rocker panels & TinMan subframe connectors to strengthen the chassis.
I want it to appear stock but I'm going with roller suspension components from Open Tracker Racing as I've had great results using Johns stuff in the past.
Still trying to figure out what engine to stuff in it. Either a high winding 302 or a stroked 351. I've got either factory engine in the barn but I'm wondering if an aftermarket block would be better?
Here's some pics. My son saw the car sitting in the garage and called it a "One eyed bandit"... So the name stuck and the kids now call our Mustang - "Bandit".

I think the question will be the same one we all have- what the hell have I started?

Sweet another build thread- looking forward to it!

I've probably got more than there is bandwidth...

Has anyone built a high winding 302?
Can I use a factory 2 bolt main and not worry about the bottom end coming apart if it's going to be revved up high. I'll be using ARP studs on the bottom end and a girdle. I've got two blocks to choose from - a 1970 date coded 302 block or a 1989 5.0 HO roller block.
I'd also like to have a one piece rear main (as that always seems to be a spot that leaks) but can't that be machined into a 1970 block?

What chassis reinforcements have been done that work well to strengthen the chassis flex?

How far back and how low can the seat pans be moved without causing a bunch of trouble? I could fill & re drill the seat mount holes in the floor pan if need be.

I built a high revving 306. I went all forged with a mid 80s roller block. I had nothing but trouble. Ended up burning up the lower end. There may have been a few factors that lead to it.

I now have a 331 which I flog the hell out of. I mean I punish it and it is bad ads. I have the limiter at 6800 rpm and bounce it off it a lot. So far nothing but smiles.
On the dyno it was 400hp and 420 ftlbs. It is perfect for the car. I have a really hard time hooking up. I do have subframe connectors, Cal tracks, and sticky tires.
I am on my 3rd t5 trans. This time I went with an astra performance t5rates at about 500hp.
If I had it to do over again I would have gone with a built aod.

I have 3.73 gears and a track lock with open tracker roller front parts. My car is FUN

ok, xlnt, you came to the right site . . several people including myself have built high rev 302's but it costs quite a bit to do so you might be better building a 6500 rpm 331 stroker.

for 6800 rpm and over

steel main caps

internally balanced crank

ati crank damper

eagle or scat i or h beam rods

ford racing m-9424-e302 dual plane port matched or vic junior ported by joe sherman

quick fuel 680 to 750 mechanical secondary carb.

afr 185 or 195 heads with upgraded springs

morel high rev lifters

chris straub, custom ground billet steel cam.

rollmaster timing set with iwis chain and nitrided sprockets

steel main caps

race tec custom pistons
