1969 Mach 1 Build - Heather
Hey guys, I want to share what I am working on with you. My long term girlfriend broke up with me almost a year ago, and unbeknownst to her I had quite a bit of cash set up for a ring. Welp, when she left me I knew exactly what the money would be going toward. I was immediately in the market for a 69 fastback and was able to locate a Mach 1 in California in the condition I wanted in July of 2015. The previous owner had plans of doing a late model motor and had stripped/sand blasted the shell. The first few pics show how I found her.
Overall I was very impressed with the body. There is no engine/trans/drivetrain/suspension. But about 80% of the interior did come with the car including steering wheel, woodgrain dashes, 2 sets of doors/panels, complete fold down rear seat. I have all the glass minus the front windshield. No bucket seats, no center console. The body does have some areas of rust in the common places.
The shell was sent to a body shop a few months back, where it is still residing. They are getting all of the major metal work done for me. This is one of the only things I will not be attempting to do myself on the vehicle. While I wait for the body to get finished up, picked up a 69 Ford 9 inch that I found on craigslist. The unit was local and came out of a 69 mach 1, score! This is my first time rebuilding a 9 inch to this extent and I was pretty impressed with how it came out. I bumped up the gearing from 3.00 to 3.89, new bearings, and installed a mini spool. I didn't want to throw a lot of money into to as one day I think I would love to switch from 28 spline to 31+. Rear end install + suspension are next up, probably in a week!
And that's about where I stand now. I have the major of the car mapped out and plan on doing a very rapid buildup. Please share your thoughts and opinions, I would love to hear any questions. I also started an Instagram for my build @69MACH1BUILD

Day I picked her up.
sitting at her new home
Completely stripped
Rust in the usual areas
Getting a new tail light panel at the body shop
New truck floors.
New metal looks so good!
Both trunk floor pans
Both rear quarters had typical rust. I am not going to replace the running lights
Rear end had not been opened in 46 years!
Picked up a used 69 9inch out of a 69 Mach 1. Has 3.00 gears and no posi.
Blasted all the rust off of it.
Disassembly
Shes the only one allowed to hold my nine inch.
This is me realizing the carrier bearings I ordered are the wrong size
First time rebuilding a nine inch by myself
New ring/pinion and bearings. 3.89
Almost perfect, changed my backlash a hair to get my marks centered after this picture.

It will be both! certainly not a daily driver. My goal right now is to get the stang up and running ASAP. So that means not going all out on the setup quite yet (except for the motor). Once she is running, and my rear end snaps, that's going to be my que to get a 35 spline Detroit locker. For the time being lets save that money to get my shocks and springs ordered! But theres no way I'm driving around with an open rear end, $30 mini spool was the way to go on this project for the time being.

I am down in Orange County. The picture of the stang on the trailer is where I picked it up and looks much different than the landscape of my city! I have my truck to get me gas mileage and reliability, the stang is going to be the badass. I better get a rewards card from mickey Thompson.
