Body Work
Hi all long time no see. I've stayed away cause its too depressing having zero time for my Mustang.
I'm here to ask a big question. As I am finding that being a Dad means I have no time for projects with a big learning curve, i.e. replacing floors and misc. other welding tasks, I need to find a shop to do it for me.
I need to find a shop that will fix my floor boards and other such items as well as strip and paint my car for a good price and excellent quality.
I live in the Peoria, IL area and as of right now would like to find someone close by, but if thats not possible I will obviously need to go outside my comfort zone.
So please, bring on the suggestions for or against. I need experiences so I can narrow, get quotes, and set aside what will hopefully not be a ton of money. But lets face it. Its a 66 Mustang.....Money is what they live on!

I just need someone to weld in the new front floor pans, replace the cowl, and a small fix to the end of the front drivers side frame rail. I've already stripped the car so no tear down involved. Rest of the car is solid. After that some paint I can take care of the rest.

not familiar with the shops in your area. Ask people from other clubs in the area (even the chevy clubs) Usually there is a shop or two that is well known in the clubs for doing good work and is hot rod/car guy friendly. Go with those recommendations. OH- and time is money- if you can give them months and let them fit it in you'll get a better price than needing it in 4weeks, 6weeks, whatever.

You might want to try some Tech schools if they still have them in your area. Some of the instructors are very meticulous and the students work hard to learn the proper techniques. With an old Mustang, there is loads of interest and you just pay for parts.

I would either do it myself or dump it. You can do everything right except miss one spot and you'll wind up with new rust all over. I doubt you'll find a great shop to do it for you on a budget. It's very easy for a shop to rush something that won't show up for a year or 2. With our humidity, bare metal starts rusting in hours, and if your car has ever been exposed (even second hand salt is deadly) to salt, or has rust and/or salt inside any of the sheet metal or frame rails, you must be meticulous to remove it and treat all areas. You need to get rid of every spec of rust!!
True, but they do need to store it inside.
BTW, congrats on being a new dad, this could be a great Father/Son?Daughter project in 6 or 8 years.
