Default stronger shocks for 68 base convertible

I want to get stronger shocks for the rear. Don't want those expensive gas/air operated adjustable ones, or whatever. A friend told me to get the standard rear shocks for a 68 Cougar because they would be stronger as the Cougar was a heavier vehicle. What would you all suggest?

I would be careful with "stronger" rear shocks. There really isn't much keeping them from punching through the floor. I'd recommend stiffer springs and new bushings, instead.

‘Stronger’ shocks is a misnomer. They aren’t really stronger, they are just stiffer. So by installing them your ride quality will suffer, but you may get slightly better cornering. You’ll feel every bump in the road, but you’ll be able to take a corner slightly faster.
