Default Backfiring after Ingition/Coil/Plugs

Dunno if that's even a good word to use.
But, Casper98GT came down to my house today.
Finally got my battery in its box in the back, along with my ignition and coil up where the battery used to be.

This whole job took like 6 hours
wow...
it did take that long...

Arrived at my house around 4:30
He left at around 11:30

Oh, and Matt. My mom loved the burnout
hehehehe
Original: Mom
He's going to get caught downtown! They're looking for the person that keeps peelin out near our house!
Was a good laugh
He also let me take his car for a spin, tho I didn't do anything crazy in it. It drove very nicely, much better than my car.
He can also shift like a madman
Thought the tranny was gonna break or somethin.

Anyways, heres my question:
After getting those three things installed and in their place. My car is now back to backfiring.
What could be causing this?
We checked the timing, and set it back to stock 10ยบ
Didnt help.
Checked the new spark plug wires I put on too, that also didnt help either they were already snug onto the plugs/dist.

Could the new ignition have something to do with it?
Or the Coil?

Any hints and/or suggestions would be Greatly appreciated...
I DONT LIKE BACKFIRING much, and I can't accelerate too good or Cackle Cackel Boom is all I hear.
Can hear it every now and then when I'm coasting down from gears.
Or if I'm in neutral and I rev it itll do it too.

Anyways, back to his car.
The interior is 10 TIMES BETTER than mine...
god mine looks so damn boxy and outdated.
Shifts were nice and crisp, transition between gears was too.
Nothing like nhdungeonracer's but still much better than mine.

But I love the way my car handles and looks, and sounds.
Except for a few sounds that's very unwanted.
Tinny Flowmasters, and Muffler rattling against frame or somethin.
Oh also casper was lookin into gettin a 75 shot for his stang too, was gonna show him how funking kickass it is.
But it was backfiring way too much, so I didn't bother.
Well I tried, but it let out a nice pop and I just stopped and drove normal.

Can anyone fix my backfiring problem?

OH!
Just remembered something.
I just took off the...
Ugh cant think of the name
But it works with the smog pump
and since I dont have the pump anymore I decided to ditch the box thing on the front passenger side of the engine bay

It was only connected to ONE thing on my car still.
Some sort of wiriing connection thing.
So I disconnected it there and unbolted it from the frame and tossed it.

Could that be causing the backfiring?

Heya Obsol3te - You said you removed youre smog pump, Did you plug or cap off the hose into youre intake, Cause I think the back pressure from that will cause youre backfire, Thats what I am guessing, I did that on my 85 cougar 5.0L car.

The smog pump was removed long ago, and the car ran fine.

I Also noticed this when driving it today:
When say under 2000RPMS and I accelerate, even lightly.
It backfires like a bastard.

Barely backfires above 2000RPMS tho
May hear it once every so often, but I'd like that to go away too.

I was thinkin, could it be my spark plugs?
Since my ignition fires 6 times per stroke under 3000RPMS
Maybe my spark plugs just cant keep up?
So the gas is being sent thru into the exhaust and detonating there?

Here's what was installed:

MSD 6AL Ignition
MSD 8.5mm Wires
MSD Blaster 3 Coil

Are you able to adjust youre MSD 6AL Ignition, To increase youre spark or retard youre spark, What kind of plugs are you running? I would use autolite or bosch platium. Did you check youre timing too?

Not sure about adjustments yet. But I'll try and read up on it.

As for spark plugs, I'm running
Autolites - Copper 2 steps colder.

And I set my timing back to the stock 10ยบ because it was backfiring at its previously like 14 after the installation.

But I never got one backfire before the ignition was put in.
So it's either the Coil, Ignition or wires?

Double check that each spark plug wire is on the correct plug and distributor post. go through it one by one! If one wire is one the wrong cylinder it will idle fine, but put a load on it and it will pop and fall on its face. Its easy to make that mistake on Chevys, On Fords its kinda hard but it still happens.

5.0s prefur 12 degrees btdc, I run motorcraft 32 heat range plugs stick with what came with it (Brand that is) dont be fooled by platinum plugs they do nothing for you plus its a waste of $ , I use to work for bosch, and platinums and + 4s etc do nothing trust me guys.

302's Firing Order: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Distributor Rotation is Counter-Clockwise
