Default 3.73 differential

Hello:

What a difference a 3.73 rear differential makes in a Mustang? I am looking at two 2014 Mustangs one with 3.73 and one without.

Thanks

To put it simply, the higher the gear ratio #, the faster the car will accelerate.

Thanks for the simple and useful answer. Is it correct to assume that the MPG will go to the other direction? The higher the gear, the faster the acceleration and the lower MPG?!
Do you know what is the gear ration in stock 2014 mustang GT is?

3.31. The 3.73 really seems to wake the car up on takeoff. It will most likely decrease mileage by a couple, I'm not sure if it affects city or highway more though?

What kind of difference are we talking about? Tent of second? What would be the difference between a VA with 3.31 gear and a VA if the VA comes with 3.73?

Those gears might be worth a 10th. With on overdrive transmission. The gears shouldnt effect milage to much.

I am sorry about the typo above. What I was trying to say is if the difference is only a 10th and if it effects the MPG by 1-2 miles, then it doesn't worth to me. Also I wanted to know what gear ratio the V6 comes with? Does a V6 with 3.73 gears (if they come with that) would be close to a V8 with 3.31 gears?!

LOL. Itll take a hell of alot more than gears to get a v6 to run anywhere near a V8s time.

There is a middle ground here. My '14 GT has 3.55 gears and I think it's a good comprimise. Mainly a DD but I do plan to 1/4 mile some once I mod a bit.

One thing I would say you should think hard on is why you want a Mustang. If it's just for the look and you want decent MPG you have to go with the V6. IT IS NOT THE SAME CAR. If you want it for more than looks go with the GT. You already know you can afford it so that shouldn't be a huge deal.

I get 13 MPG in my GT as stock. I fully expect it to hit 10-11 after Tune/Intake/TB/Headers-Tips. Also, you should run 93 octane in the GT and can do 89 in the V6. That's just the price we pay.

Drive both before you buy. See for yourself.

Man, you only get 13 mpg? You must do a lot of spirited driving. I'm on my 2nd tank and have been around 19-20 so far, but I've been taking it fairly easy most of the time. Waiting for at least 3rd tank or 500 miles to open up the top half of the rev range.
