Carburetor Size 347 stroker
Just woundering if anyone can make a recomendation on what size carb to use on my 347 stroker motor. I just built the motor and I used high performance parts such as Brodix Race Heads. The motor is going to flow well. The intake is ported well and I polished the heads a bit but they came looking good to start. Fell length headers are going to be used as well. Im going to limit the RPM to around 6,000. The car will be for both street and strip but not driven much. It has a 5sp manual trans and 4:10 gears in the rear. The first recomendation I need is about the size. Im thinking around 650-750 cfm. The second thing I was looking at is Brand. Holley has a nice selection of double pumper style carbs but I was trying to avoid a choke tower. They make a 750cfm "street HP" model without a choke that looks nice but 750cfm is on the high side of what my settup is looking for. Proform company makes a sweet looking model for Race that looks the same as the Holley Street HP but is has CNC billet metering blocks and throttle plates. This company also has a 650 model but the boosters are annular as opposed to the 750 has downleg boosters. Well the suggestions would greatly be appreciated as well as any advice. TYVM.

I would go with a Demon 750 double pumper. Annular boosters will have better low end responce with a big cam, other wise I have always used downlegs in the past and had good luck with them.

Thanks for that JD. I noticed you respond to alot of the questions in this forum. Do you get get paid by this site. Either way thats cool of you. Ive heard some ok things about demon carbs so im going to check them out. Thanks again.

I just looked over the carbs at grants site. The Mighty series looks nice and the price on them is pretty low too. Thanks for the recomendation. You dont think 750 is gunna be a bit too much cfm for the motor? My cam has a 230 lift @ .050 The idle wont be crazy but i just dont want a bog on heavy acceleration. You dig?

Bogs are caused 90% of the time by not enough fuel, this can be tuned by using acceleratoer pumpp cams and squirters. I think a 750 will be fine givin that you have a light car with a 5 speed and 4:10 gears.
You mean 230 duration @ .050 right? If so thats plenty of duration for a 750

I would use the 750 Barry Grant carby. They are excellant!! An other thing about the tuning is to use differant cams for the accellertor pump too.
Those things usually don't NEED anything done to them.
If you can, try to find one made back in the 90's, like the one they got sued over, it looks just like a Holley (reason for suit). They can use and air cleaner but still have the milled choke.
