Default Steering wheel vibration

I'm noticing a slight vibration/shaking in the steering wheel at highway speeds (about 65mph). Is this just the way the car handles? I only have 1300 miles on it.

It sounds like you have a wheel out of balance.

I have the same problem and I have had the wheel/tires checked for balance. They are fine - tire shop said it is probably a bad tire, but dealers says it is probably a bad face on the rotor - where the wheel mounts to. This makes sense as it only vibrates when driving - as soon as I hit the brakes the vibration goes away. If it was BRAKE rotor or tire, I would think it would vibrate all the time. Anyway, I'm content to leave it be for awhile - eventually I'll have to take it in to have the rotors checked/replaced.

Tires are an imperfect science.

NONE of them are PERFECT....

The typical event that everyone is aware of is balance.. and that will solve vibration problems MOST of the time.

BUT - - no tire is perfectly ROUND... and sometimes they will be so out-of-round that no amount of balancing will make up the difference.

A test for round - - - switch your rear tires for the front ones and see if the vibration goes away. If it it does, and your tires are balanced, then most likely you have a round issue.

Also, some tires will be way off caster/camber .. which causes the tire to wobble/scoot from side to side. you will feel this in the stearing wheel as well. The same test will show if it is your tires or not.

Good luck!

Mine has a slight shake but its not like I can't hold the wheel so it just doesn't matter.

Well, they re-indexed all 4 tires then re-balanced. Seemed to solve the problem. you guys are good!

Thanks...Dawn

Aftermarket wheels will vibrate as well.

The factory installs a thin piece of metal on one stud on each rotor to keep the rotor on on the factory line. The factory wheels are machined to accept this thin pice of metal but most aftermarket wheels are NOT. Therefore, your wheels will basically be on crooked. Make sure to remove this piece before installing your new wheels, or have your installer do it. Mine didn't and it vibrated at different times and came and went depending on the locations due to turns, etc.
