07 Rear Axle

RE: 07 Rear Axle
I think that GTs still all come with limited slip, but the 3.55 gear is now a $100 option on the 07 GT.
On the 05 and 06 GTs all the diffs were limited slip and the only car that got the 3.55 was a GT, coupe, 5spd. The coupes with autos came with 3.31s and all verts regardless of auto or stick came with 3.31s.

Go to a parking lot with both windows open. Do two slow "figure 8's." Do you hear a "moan" - kinda like your tires rubbing? Then you've just proven to yourself you have a Ford TracLoc. IMO - the noise is normal and don't worry about it.

Does anybody know if the 07 GT with an automatic transmission has the limited slip diff? Does it still have the 3:31 to 1 gear ratio?
Thanks

My take is that since the option specifies LS in the 3.55 option then all other axles are open. It wouldn't be the first time Ford changed a standard feature to an option as a method of hidden price increases.

This has been a question I've posed to Ford without getting the same answer twice. 2006RedGT, have you confirmed that your pumpkin tag reads 3L31 as opposed to 3 31? What is the axle code on your door tag plate?
Another concern I have is if the rear carrier for the limited slip is the same carrier used back in the '80s and '90s in the Mustangs, Explorers, Broncos and F-150s. They were a real POS. I went through two of them, both self destructing in the same way. I put an Auburn Pro in the back of my C-150 Centurion and haven't had any problems since.
If anyone has torn down a S197 rear end then I ask them to look at the following to see if there are any similarities. Please forgive the rust as I bought the digital camera about a year after destroying the rear end. You will have to use your imagination in piecing it back together.
