Pypes Mid-Muffler System vs FRPP GTA's
Pypes Mid-Muffler system installed. Stock exhaust,I was running the GTA axle-backs prior.
I installed myself @ home using jackstands. Tools used; 3/8" Dr ratchet,15mm deep well socket & a 13mm Gearwrench. You'll need to unbolt the bottom bolt of the rear shocks, jack up the car & put the jackstands on the rear frame rail. I removed the GTA's prior to putting the jackstands in, they don't have enough room with a muffler there. The straight pipes from the Pypes system will clear though.
Removing the factory over axle pipe is tight & will require some shifting around, but it can be done.
Read the install directions, I installed mine in their order & it all went togther O.K. Clearance between the gas tanks & driveshafts is TIGHT.I've got maybe 1/4" to the tanks. Also, look & plan the clamp orientation.Tip alignment is gonna be tricky, there's more pieces vs. the stock setup. I still have to go back tomorrow & realign the pass. side tip.
Overall, kinda a PITA doing with limited room, if you've got the money to spend have a muffler shop do it. I've been turning wrenches most of my +30yr career & I prefer to do it myself.
Start-up,easily as loud & deep as the GTA's & mine are well broken in. I'd say maybe 1 notch up on loudness. Low RPM's & coasting, similar to the GTA's. Mid RPM's, a few steps up, sounds good! Has a different tone to it overall. Wide open, nice not overbearing loud and again a bit louder than the GTA's. Backing off the gas or shifting, it 'burbles' much more than the GTA's. Old school sound.
Just be forewarned, Pypes puts a coating of oil/grease/preservative on the pipes & you'll smell it burning off the first drive. Very noticeable. I'll see if the smell is gone tomorrow.
