Default s197 good for 300,000+ miles?

What are the odds of a GT lasting over 300,000 miles? Mine has 28,000.I do 70%city/30%highway driving, change oil every 3,000 miles with royal purple, and I pour a can of BG 44K inthe gastankwith theoil change also. I don't get into it much, my right foot can behave when I want it to. Any suggestions on this engine?

routine maintence and it shouldn't be a problem.. i'm sure you'll be in something else before it makes it that far though

If you take care of it and dont abuse it, then it should be fully capable of doing it.

300,000 highway miles is questionable, but 300,000 miles mostly city driven? Not a chance without a major engine repair or two. Even when you change all the fluids when your suppose to, parts do eventually wear out.

I think it should be no problem if maintained properly.

My 95 tbird with the 4.6l 2v had 250,000 miles on it when I sold it.
Still ran pretty strong. Even took it to the drag strip a few months before I sold it, lol.
It was stock, and well maintained. I did drive the car pretty hard all its life. I delivered pizza in it a few years also.
It did start buring some oil, and some was making its way past the valve guides causing a puff of blue smoke after I would sit idle. (I noticed alot of older 4.6's did this, especially the taxi cabs.)
But the car started and ran great everyday and would pass emissions testing with flying colors.

I kind of miss it! Now I gotta post a pic, lol.

These Cars today last a good long time, with minimal maintenance....I've had Full Sized Bronco's last up to 300,000 miles, and still running strong when I took them to Auction. Right now I'm driving a GMC Suburban 4x4 that has 278,000 miles on it....original Motor,Trans, and Rear. I feel you'll get out of the Car what you put in it. To Quote the Temptations....

Should make it if you do like you say. I got 220,000 on a 69 Fastback and it was still running when I sold it. I did have to put a distributer in it and a radiator.
