Hot Rod Cam Installation Guide

well you are very welcome JDWalton and
thanks for the kind words.
not everyone's circumstances allow them
to do this at home and the cost of the
special tools is a real bummer for many.
let me know when you get your cams
and how you like them.

Nice job on the writeup hammy. I have been toying with the idea of cams for awhile. I probably need to wait until I build a forged short block though. I'm not sure how much more if any my stock block will take. She's blowing 14 psi and screams pretty hard with my KB. Can you feel any real power gains with them?

thanks jerjan and good to see ya.
i'm back on the stock cams now, it's
a long story but basically i'm waiting
for the tuning community to figure out
how to tune for these....
for us the hot rods would best be considered
a sound mod, for performance you would go
with a different grind.
is that a new sig pic, it looks like you moved
more crap into the corner of the garage, where
the bicycle used to be

I have 5 kids, 3 of them teenagers so the garage changes on a day to day basis! I was asking about the cams cause I would really like the sound but if it throws out the tune I would pass on them for now. Just checking in with ya. Did you know you are a god on this forum with almost 9,000 posts? Where do you get all the spare time?

I swapped pulleys on mine, too. What did you come up with for setting the crank pulley? I'm trying to find information on timing marks for my MotoBlue UDPs.
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks,

Great instructions! I'm going to give this a shot in a few months. The only thing I can't figure out is what if you swapped crank pullies? I don't remember timing mark on the pulley.
Note: You need to position the crank pulley before removing the cam
followers. This orientates the cams, so that the 3 cam followers
on each side, have the least amount of spring pressure on them.
I marked the crank pulley, so I can easily see the damper spoke
and the timing mark locations. The line in the 1 o'clock position
is the timing mark.

hey Windveil good to see ya
based on the service manual procedure
for timing the engine with the front
cover off, i think it's safe to say that
the keyway is where it's at.
the keyway is your reference, for placing
the crank at 12 and 6 o'clock.
of course you should verify this for yourself,
to be sure.

Cams
Just a quick question about these FFRP cams...It may be a stupid question but do they affect the factory warranty? I plan on doing this next winter but just want to know what I'm getting into. I'm guessing a special tune is needed, I am thinking could I just change the parameters on my diablosport tuner without paying for a tune??? Am I off base or should a just go with a special tune? Your thoughts anyone....
