Default Quick Question on CAI/Tuner & OCTANE!

Have one simple question.....

Just got a C&L intake and Predator tuner.
I have a little over half a tank of 87 Octane fuel in the car right now.

To be safe, I installed the 87oct tune on the car.
What I want to know is:
Can I install the CAI and C&L tune tonight,
even though there is more than half a tank of 87 in the car?
Or should I wait til the car is down to E, then fill 93 and install the CAI/Tune?

Thanks for taking the time to answer this if you do.
Feels like a whole new car just on the 87 tune, grinning ear to ear!
Can't wait to get the intake and tune loaded!!!

You should have the CAI installed if you've loaded the 87 custom tune. But, yes, installl the CAI if you haven't already and run the 87 custom tune until you have a full tank of whatever octane you're shooting for. And you'll be fine if you still have maybe 2 or 3 gallons of 87 when you refill with the higher octane. In the unlikely event you DO get some knock, reload a lower octane tune untill you can tank up one more time with the higher octane fuel, then reload the higher octane tune before calling your tuner about the knock.

If the Predator came loaded with only one C&L tune, then it may be a 91 octane tune.(That's how it worked a while back. I haven't been keeping up with DiabloSport's tunes since I switched to a BamaChip's tune.) You should be able to check this either in the Predator instructions, or by contacting DiabloSport.
If the C&L tune is for 91 octane, and you want to use it with the C&L CAI and 87 octane gas, then you can retard the global timing by 4 degrees with the Predator. But I suggest using up as much of the remaining 87 octane as possible with the 87 tune installed, fill up with 91 octane, use that up, fill up again with 91 octane, and install the C&L CAI and the C&L tune.
Also, the 87 tune may be designed for the stock air intake. If so, then you don't want to use it with the C&L CAI. Otherwise, the engine will run lean, and the ECU will throw a CEL.

Thanks.

I'm under the impression that the 87 tune is for a stock car, everything is running fine with the stock intake and no codes/lights.

There are 2 C&L tunes, but just racer and street...
I'm assuming they're both 91/93oct tunes...

Will wait til I can fill up on 93 then go with the cai for the cars sake.
Was very impatient last night!

Is there any harm done from the car running lean aside from a CEL?

You don't want to run lean,
worst thing you can do to engine.
Burns plugs and pistons.

+1
Running lean is definitely NG for the engine.

wow, i would have never thought it would be that bad, damn......

i waited, tank was very low, filled up on 93 octane, installed the CAI, loaded the C&L tune from the predator.

Strange thing is:
I feel no difference in the car from the "87 octane performace tune" with the stock air box, To the 91/93 octane C&L tune with the CAI.
Is this normal?
Is a custom tune needed to benefit the car more from the cai?
Has anyone compared the original diablosport tune for their intake to a bama/bren tune, on otherwise stock cars?

I didn't notice a huge difference between the stock tune and my brenspeed 91 and JLT. If you have an automatic transmission it's more obvious since the car shifts much more aggressively. If you drive a manual the difference is IMO more subtle.
