Default best sized street tires 18x8.5??

Gonna check out the local used tire warehouse in the morning and wondering what the best sized tires are for the stock 18x8.5s would be?

Not looking for some full DRs or anything, maybe some BF KDWs...

275/50/18s?? 285/40/18s?? 295/40/18s?? Soft compound, hard compound? thread pattern??

stock suspension, height etc.

Want something that will give me traction and hug the road when I drive...

i'd like to know that myself; i've still got the stock tires (on 18X8.5 rims), which i think were 235/50/18, or something like that. they're a little narrow, and i'd like to put a wider tire on the back at least. anybody got any suggestions?

255/45/18's are as large as I would go on the stock 18 x 8.5 wheels. Anything wider will bulge too much IMO.

What jd said. If you check the recommendations from the various tire manufactureres you'll find that the widest tire recommended on an 8.5" wheel is a 255.

The largest commonly available tire for an 18x8.5 is 255/45/18. Most manufacturers who make a 275/45/18 approve for 8.5 also. However 275/45/18's are rare and expensive, mostly being made for German luxury cars.

I have 255/45/18 Hankook Ventus Evo 12 tires and can't say enough good things about them. I've had them on for about 2,500 miles now and they've been the best tire I've ever owned on any vehicle. They look great, handle great, are very quite and have been great in the rain even with my higher HP numbers. I also got Discount Tire to price match the Tire Rack price so I got a great deal on them. I highly recommend them.

Have the same tire in a different size. Bought them from www.discounttiredirect.com I agree about how good they are. Good wet and dry traction (better than the KDW I've owned before) and quiet!

Rates as a best tire buy in my book.

Wow, from the exterior our cars truly are twins. :-)

I just need another 100hp or so to catch up to you.
