Default Carbon Fiber

Im looking at new hoods, and i thought the carbon fiber hoods were cool. Does anyone know if i could paint the top of the hood and leave the underside with the carbon fiber look. I thought this would look really good and shed some weight at the same time.

Help please

thats actually not a bad idea if you can paint it. You would only be losing 7 pounds though since the stock hood is 10 and carbon fiber is about 3.

Its not even the weight factor. when the hoods shut it'd look like a normal hood, but when its popped, like at a car show or something it would look bad@$$.

Carbon fiber parts are rarely finished well enough to stand up to sun exposure and fade or turn yellow over time. Painting the exposed parts is an excellent idea.

The underside will yellow in time with the engine heat.

Hmm interesting...because I actually think it is a really cool idea. Can that be prevented via a couple layers of clear coat?

Carbon Fiber typically did yellow...but the new stuff they are putting out now is usually treated with uv protectant in the gel coat, so stand up better than it used to. It says if this is added or not in the description. If not, you can buy uv protecting clear coat for it.

You would need to get the gel coat sanded to smooth it out...then you could paint or clear it.

I am thinking of getting a carbon fiber hood for my car. I want to get a super snake stripe painted in flat black with skulls airbrushed in, and leave the rest of the CF exposed...have the whole thing clear coated (with the uv protecting clear).
